You’ll never guess who did the DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT of The Star Hill condo!
It may have started out as The Scene condo, but in September 2015 and already in the early stages of construction, the launch event for The StarHill condominium was held presided over by none other than the then governor of Chiang Mai.
With Bangkok’s multi-award winning Vanguard Architects Atelier and I Will Design Studio both in tow, the CEO and brains behind the ultra luxe Star Hill condo is in fact a locally born Associate Professor with a career in cosmetic science and a previous pride and joy project of the Star Dome Golf Club!
Fit for occupancy in February 2017 and earth-shatteringly serene, the ‘natural modern style’ twin building low-rise boasts an anatomy impervious to major seismic movements and utilises intelligent energy-saving installations like the airflow system that pulls cooler, more comfortable air from the outside in. On the inside, the condo shows off 1.5m wide inner glass-walled, single-loaded corridors and oriented internally in an ostensibly auspicious manner according to feng shui principles!
So WHEREABOUTS in Chiang Mai will you find The Star Hill condo?
Sat on an extensively gardened plot of four rai (pretty much two-thirds of a hectare) on the lower middle portion of Canal Road [Khlong Chonprathan], The Star Hill’s location thus accords many a vantage from which to admire the amazing 180° outlook of the nearby National Park’s Doi Suthep and Doi Kham templed mountains.
Right across the way from the property and convening every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, the Chiang Mai Organic Home market whets the appetite with a broad array of fresh groceries and ready-to-go meals. For a slice of real Thai life, though, the condo backs onto the verdant, sleepy sois [lanes] of Pong Noi. Besides the village being well provided with mom and pop shophouse restos, kerbside street food sellers and cool coffee houses, the temple grounds of the centrally situated Buddhist wat is the setting for an effervescent weekly flea market. And given the neighbourhood’s long been imbued with a creative vibe, equal billing should go to the delightfully different Baan Kang Wat as the venue for a Sunday morning farmers’ market, indie handiwork shops and cafés, arts and crafts courses, and a sunken amphitheatre which puts on many a community bash.
Though the condo may feel somewhat out on a geographic limb, residents can hit the northbound carriageway of that part of the Outer Ring Road and be on the south side of Chiang Mai University’s main campus on Suthep Road [Lang Mor] in only a handful of minutes; or the undyingly groovy Nimmanhaemin Road in barely more time with a brief drive up the main drag to Rin Kham intersection for Maya Lifestyle mall and the beginning of the Super Highway. Motoring southward instead from StarHill and in under 10 minutes arrive at Mae Hia wet market and next door, Mali Place shopping plaza with its unassuming food court and branch of homegrown supermarket, Rimping.
Are these the final word in ON-SITE AMENITIES?
One thing’s absolutely for sure, The Star Hill doesn’t skimp on safety facilities so folks should have no misgivings of any kind when it comes to security. First of all, neatly uniformed guards keep a sharp and unrelenting watch over the barriered entryway onto the premises with a separate gated point of exit. Furthermore, a barrage of closed-circuit television cameras focuses on common areas with access into and within the condo (including the use of each building’s double ‘Smart Control’ glass lifts) by virtue of an electronic keycard and/or fingerprint scan. And it doesn’t end there! The front door of each and every unit is fixed with a Schlage digital lock and inside, a Bticino touch-screen video intercom for the resident to call for the elevator or even interact live with their expected visitors waiting in whichever of the copiously proportioned, WiFi-rigged main communal lobby in building B or the reception foyer of building A. Last but not least, the juristic office in building A is open from 8AM to 5PM Monday to Saturday.
Combining an underground lot as well as peripheral outdoor bays, the car parking quota at The StarHill is approximately 70% of the maximum residential capacity. Similarly sharing the first floor in building A, a whopping (130 sq m) gym carrying the very latest fitness machinery alongside a no less considerable library room complete with free online connectivity so handily functioning as a work space. Despite being officially advertised, regrettably there’s no games room at the condo.
Up a level amid the inner courtyard, Chiang Mai’s first and only mineral water infinity-edge swimming pool (30x6m) with side jacuzzi pool and gracing the timber sun deck, a paired duo of mesh recliners. Indoors in building B are male and female segregated steam rooms.
But taking top spot and interlinking the two condo buildings on the upper floor, an executive style Sky Lounge with see-through roof allowing residents to gaze upon the starry heavens or, during the day, clap eyes on the unhindered panoramic backdrop of the green Thanon Thong Chai peaks.

Discounting the five commercial units which stand vacant at the moment, The Star Hill holds 199 stellar units split between the eight storeys of each of condo buildings A and B. And, organised in an open-plan living/dining/kitchen layout, the developer’s not fallen short on the sheer variety of units on offer! Aimed at the ‘Stylish Solo’, studio units afford 32 to 42 sq m of useable space; intended for the ‘Darling Duet’, couple-sized 1 bedroom units in either of deluxe or superior class amount to 48 to 67 sq m with standard 2 bedroom units weighing in at 69 to 73 sq m; and targeting the ‘Blissful Band’, family-sized 2 bed Plus units of 123 to 129 sq m, dual-floored 4 bedroom units totalling 233 to 245 sq m and the residential pièce de résistance, the exclusive 4 bed duplex penthouse suites running to 244/245 sq m.
Featuring 2.5m tall ceilings with full height and width tinted windows, units are effectually shielded against external noise while producing light-suffused rooms. Supplied wholly air-conditioned with one or more private glass-panelled balconies, units come 100% furnished and, not a baht spared, entirely equipped using carefully picked materials which are not only high spec but durable. To say the very least, interiors throughout are extravagantly -yet discerningly- appointed with showpiece contemporary chic presentation. As an added -if optional- pro, all units are kitted out with their own internet router for blisteringly fast fibre-optic broadband from Sinet.
